I first met Denton in Tucson whilst walking along a dry riverbed. They are originally from northern England, where their family has had an estate in Northumberland for centuries. They emigrated to the US after a misunderstanding that involved 3 bottles of very expensive Sherry, a speedboat, a priceless family heirloom statue (Stable Boy In The Bath), approximately 217 pounds of assorted stolen cutlery, and two women of negotiable virtue. Cut off from family funds, they had fallen on hard times. When we met they were recovering from a week-long bender, half-buried in mud to escape discovery by the police (another misunderstanding involving stolen cutlery and large amounts of assorted recreational pharmaceuticals). They assure me that this time is different, that they are going to get their life back on track. I have concerns, but perhaps everyone deserves another chance in life…
